As the years go on, the odds are less and less likely.

Many telecom companies don't design battery backup capacity for home internet systems like they used to because most people can't use the internet when power is out. They used to have to provide battery backup for power outages so that hardline phones would work, especially for emergency calls.

If you are truly planning on power outages, you need to have a plan that allows you to use wireless/cellular internet in a power outage. Cell towers will all have good backup power setups.
