They had the misfortune of trying to breakout at the same time U2 was in about 83-84. Adamson and his other guitarist really worked well together as co-leads creating that " bagpipe" sound.....and that did them in. The Crossing was solid as was the next album.

Also I would group The Alarm in with them although they did not have anywhere as big of a breakthrough like "in a Big Country" but Strength is a solid album that still holds up today overall.

Totally agree. Love that album … got it when it first came out and still revisit it from time to time. Unlike Big Country and U2 I don’t think that the Alarm had as good of an overall body of work. Although I also had an EP called the Stand that I really liked too. I’m pretty sure that the singer for the Alarm sang for Big Country in the 2000s

Drum and bass for original Big Country line up was great too
