The melons in particular grown in the Pine - Thomas area of Washington Parish are seemingly sweeter and have that crisp rough texture. I've heard it has to do with the sandy clay loam soil that allows for the right uptake of nutrients while still allowing for efficient draining. There are several areas in the Parish with this type of soil. The best jumbo peanuts I've ever eaten come from Angie and other areas in the parish.

I honestly think that has something to do with the way The Pearl River used to flow.
