I grew up with the franchise. Saw Raiders at the theater when it was first released. Now it goes without saying that Raiders and Last Crusade are obviously the best but don’t understand the hate for Crystal Skulls. Yes it is cheesier than the aforementioned 2 best but so was Temple Of Doom. After such a long break, I was excited to see another Indy Jones movie. I thought Ford was still fairly realistic in the physical aspects of the movie. I really liked the character that Shia Lebeof played. I thought the chemistry between him and Ford was really good. I liked that they brought Marion back. I actually thought it was a great opportunity for a passing of the torch of the Indy character to Lebeouf. Yes the Alien but was a little cheesy along with the surviving the nuke in the fridge but all of the movies has certain scenes that were like that. In Raiders, why were there pythons down in the room with the Ark. why were there so many snakes period. What would they have lived on. Who cares, it was fun. That’s kind of how I viewed Crystal Skull. It was still a fun movie.

I haven’t seen Dial if Destiny yet but based on what I’ve said here, if you have seen it, do you think I will enjoy it?

Crystal Skull was more of an Indy movie than the new one but Spielberg was still in his minority report phase so the movie looked like shite plus the alien angle, like time travel, is just a stupid idea for Indiana Jones. The writing was shite too, the scenes didn’t make any sense and there was no gravity to anything. Nothing stopped long enough for drama or tension to sink in, it was just one thing happening on top of another. Bad movie but better than Dial.

You saw that scene where Shia is swinging on vines with monkeys right? Where he caught up with motor vehicles? A guy in a greaser outfit swinging on vines through the jungle with monkeys? You saw that scene?

Godawful CGI

terrible villains... trying to set the girl up as a mind reader at the beginning and then just give up on that

awful dialogue/line reads

Indy making terrible decisions

I honestly have no problem with using aliens in the climax...but the way they did it was so bad.

It just didn't feel like an Indiana Jones movie.

It just didn't have the charm of the other 3 movies. Trying to setup Shia to take over was a terrible idea. Most importantly you saw this scene right?

I get that these movies have crazy scenes but a fridge can save a person from a nuclear blast?

I’m not saying it’s aliens, but it’s aliens.

It's a bad, bad movie that I tried to avoid, but was a captive audience on an international flight.

Crystal Skull is just awful. Utterly awful.

The writing was aggressively stupid, the new characters were awful and the lore that it's based on is a bullshite grift from the 19th century that people either don't know enough about or don't care about, or both. It was also a CGI mess from beginning to end.

Basically, it was Indy and the Ancient Aliens.

I love the first one and don't feel the need to watch 2-4 again or 5 ever. That's right. I don't like 2 and 3.

I didn’t hate it. I hated certain things about it. One of my biggest pet peeves is it seemed like Indy had to explain what happened to Francisco de Orellana 3 different times to Mutt. It’s not a perfect movie by any means, but it had a lot of expectations to try and live up to that it really just couldn’t.

Unnecessary sequel

Went away from 30s action serials into 50s sci fi bullshite

“Nuking the fridge” about 30 minutes in took a lot of people out of the story and it was a hard set piece to top later on.

Etc.

I have only seen a few minutes of this movie, and Indy and co. were being chased on rocks...and man, it looked like shite....without CGI. Never wanted to watch another second of it, because I had heard of some of the stupid scenes and the shitty CGI.

I didn't mind the concept of using Aliens, as the franchise has always had supernatural elements (the ark of the covenant, the holy grail, the indian mystical stones, time travel), but much like Signs, I don't want to see the aliens, or some director's concept of what they look like, especially if the CGI is poor.

But more than anything, I was immediately resistant to 5-9 soft-chin Disney-Channel-brat Shia Labeouf being set up as the next Indy. Then there was Shia's poorly CGI'd Tarzan swinging scene to cement my ill-will.
