Did you just guess on the “hole diameter” or look that up?

I wonder if there is a size that wood ducks prefer/can use that they can’t? I have seen Screech Owls in the ones around me and whistlers. These old boxes’ holes might be too big. Just how certain bird houses have certain sized holes for certain bird species.

We just used a regular hole saw. It is supposed to be 3.5” tall and 4.5” wide. Probably why I have mergansers and whistlers nesting in them. Probably best to make it out of wood also. I suspect that aluminum we used gets pretty hot inside.
