When did all these geese start showing up?

When I was little nobody ever saw geese around Baton Rouge. Hell, you had to go up to like Minnesota to even hunt them. I don’t think I saw my first wild goose until the early 90s.
Now they are freaking everywhere. Every neighborhood has 250 of them. There must be something that changed around 1990 to allow this to happen. Maybe the internet? I really have no idea.

I haven’t seen a goose out here in the sticks.

Stay at home moms feeding the frickers every single day makes them Decide “hey this is pretty chill place to live” so they stay.

The geese realized they could get better welfare benefits in Louisiana than up North so they decided to stay.

Canadian Geese have lots of gozlings, and some are lazy. Some of them are traditionalists and migrate as their forefathers did, but others realized, "Why waste the energy to migrate when there's food here year round?"
To reduce the populations (and clean yards and sidewalks) some states have a non-migratory goose season for shooting the ones that didn't migrate.
They are a very dark meat and I think that the use of a strong marinade based on apricot jam works well with them.

5g is messing with their migration patterns!

Really, this is the only comment needed. They are the enemy.

In Denham Springs, they've taken up permanent residence at the pond across from Hooters, Longhorn steakhouse and Bass Pro.

Quit being a silly goose. They’ve been around for years.

They really like urban and suburban environments and don’t have many natural predators.
I did see a grisly scene recently where a coyote must have gotten the jump on one. Feathers everywhere and nothing left but an emptied out goose carcass.

Their correct name is Canada geese. Now you know.

Canada smoked them out, so they flew down south

I was wondering if i was the only one who noticed this. Im pushing 50, been in BR all that time and ive never saw geese anywhere here until fairly recently

It might have something to do with the many subdivision and individual homeowner ponds that are everywhere nowadays.

They’re federally protected so they’re not going anywhere

Yep. A neighbor feeds them every day, and now we have at least 12 living in our small neighborhood pond. They shite everywhere. It’s very annoying.

I saw a family of deer by the road the other day. They're the best

Yes, it’s definitely the internet.
