There is evidence that the regular season was treated as a laboratory to develop and train the staff with the postseason being the fruit of that labor.

Got down voted earlier this year, but felt like Wes and Jay were not in sync mid-year. Believe it even more now.
Wes has proven he is very good with pitchers, but is partially accountable for midyear relief pitching woes. I imagine he and Jay had some stress between them. It happens when expectations are so high and a team struggles a bit. We adjusted the way we called pitches and it worked. This likely played into Wes deciding to bolt. Most coaches with the talent that both these guys have can make them stressful to work with.
