In the 1990’s, I started playing in our club championship. My game was good, but not elite, so I signed up for the flight just below the championship flight. Unlike the championship flight, we used our handicaps. Over two days, I had the lowest score. But I lost to a guy I had beaten by 5 strokes because he was getting 3 strokes a day on me. After that year, I decided to play in the championship flight with no handicaps, and take my lumps. Much better.
