I realize it is a charitable donation, but it may be that Graves had a NIL deal with Skenes and Skenes just asked it go toward the charity and not in his pocket

I'm not saying this pointed at you bc I'm not sure your understanding of the topic, but why do people think that when a business gives "charity money" they act like it's not coming out of their pocket? I give "charity money" and yes there's a deduction on it but you still have to GIVE it away. I hear people think that the giver is not giving their money away. I understand the money given away reduces your taxable income but at a certain point you don't get full deduction of your money give.

Because there are strategic reasons businesses businesses donate to charities

In this caseI suspect Paul asked his NIL money go to the charity and not to him.

If so, it’s a win win for canes. It’s a charitable donation, the get positive publicity and Paul probably does something to endorse the business

On the other hand, there is also the possibility it is a true charitable donation given by graves gratuitously from his personal wealth because it makes him feel good to give to this worthy cause. We really do not know
