I would be very shocked if he pulled out. I think he just had a bad day.

Pog obviously had to adjust his training plan after the injury so that could be a huge factor.

But doping always has to be considered as well. It's no secret that if you get it wrong, things can go bad. Manzano of Puerto fame was given a novel substance before a Tour stage and fell off his bike during a climb if I remember correctly (a la Tom Simpson in the sixties).

I've always figured that Basso looking a lot worse than Pog today then losing pink at the 2003 Giro was doping gone wrong because he came back later in the race and blasted a power climb to victory.
