I mean when stuff like this is said about cyclists, I lose interest.

Not me.

Doping ruined the most dominant era of this sport

Not at all. Rules were broken but no one got cheated. It was an even playing field. WADA determined that Armstrong doped less than his competitors and did less to hide it, yet he still won. He was undoubtedly the best in the world. He worked harder, he worked smarter, and he was possessed - oh and he beat cancer with a 20% chance, tops, to live.

I don't know how this can fail to interest, inspire, and motivate.

it’s obvious that Jonas has a major advantage this year

Maybe. Let's see what the doping tests reveal. At this level, there aren't many secrets, generally. Word gets around on new training techniques, nutrition, PEDs etc. My curiosity is if he has stumbled upon something, legal or otherwise, that aids his recovery, and if that is the difference. Pog is cooked and Jonas is still going strong. To me that suggests recovery. That could be just Jonas at his biological peak as a human, and he may never be at this level ever again. Could be PEDs. Still fun to watch.

I feel bad for Pog, as he is doing everything he can. But it was just a couple years ago that people said the same about him as he dominated this race.

I saw a video from Phil Gaimon in my youtube feed so I'm giving it a look - the talk of doping is all the rage in the cycling world and he's going to address it, so I'll put notes below:

- Says the margin of victory was large on the ITT but the race was very close prior to the ITT. Apparently it was the closest the TDF has ever been at that stage of the race.
- Says a time trial is where 'resources' show the most. Thinks Jonas had things dialed in with the bike, his position on the TT bike etc, "seeing 20 seconds for all the geeky stuff, ceramic bearings etc" "seeing 20 seconds for bike handling" "15 seconds for ill advised bike change", and Pog was worn out over the past two weeks, coming off injury and so forth.
- People asked him if Jumbo is dirty. He says no, they just have 4x the budget and they focus on certain races.
- He is not reassuring people that everything is clean, and says if you go on the bus you'll probably see some pills you don't want to see etc.
- Says that if there was doping it was probably done months ago, outside the window of constant testing and such.
- Says it's not like the old days with blood bags on rest days.
- Then talks today's stage and the carnage, revisits doping. Goes back to the likely plan to wear Pog down over two weeks, the brutal stage, how much marginal gains affect cycling etc.
