It appears he was able to get it fixed and have been using it for a few weeks. He posted that several pages back.

He mentioned early on in the thread that it was not fixable, which seemed highly unlikely. Like anything else, it takes someone who half arse knows what they are doing to do a little troubleshooting. The problem might not be worth fixing depending on how much it cost and the value of the item that needs to be fixed, but to your point, he could have likely been able to sell it to someone else.
