I was just thinking last night how Seinfeld has maintained its cultural profile, but Friends -- also a show I never watched -- seems to be fading from the public memory

Women over 40 have the DVD box-set in a special place.

Guys relive Seinfeld.

Women, Friends is their Seinfeld.

I was more struck by how much they had forgotten. It seemed like Matt LeBlanc scarcely remembered anything.

I watched about 20-30 minutes last night before losing interest but that really stood out ot me as well. At first I tried to put it in persepctive...these are actors that have been in the business for decaes now, and hve probably worked on countless movies/shows/plays/whatever so obviously they aren't going to remember every single line of dialogue they've ever done. But I remember one scene where leblanc asked david schwimmer "hey do you remember that episode where we kept throwing hte ball and coudln't drop it" and he had no clue. HE was like uhh no not really. Like how is that even possible?

I listened to his Audible and it was rough. Not bad, rough to hear him narrate it about what he went through. 50+ percocets a day, would only get wasted alone, very lonely. HIs colon erupted and he has a bag for the rest of his life. Drugs are bad, mmmmkkkaaayyy.

I knew his drug use was bad, but I had no idea.

Damn that is sad.

Holy generalization, Batman. I do not have any Friends DVDs at all and do not rewatch. I have the Seinfeld box set, rewatch on and off all the time, and use several Seinfeld references daily—to the chagrin and dismay of my friends and family. It is probably my favorite comedy. So. Maybe I am a dude.

So you can say “all women…except Summerchild”.

And I can remember always thinking Phoebe was hot, but unlucky that her two best friends were hotter (and much hotter). But catching the show here and there nowadays, she looks even better (I assume now because I am older).

Yes. It happens for me even with gals I really think are just objectively not very attractive at all. Being 22 can turn a 5 into an 8 to an old dude.

the behind the scenes stories on how they selected each character, etc.
What was their excuse for having Ross on the show?

I read his auto-biography and he came very close to dying from his drug abuse. He was in the hospital for months, colon exploded etc. his drug use was all-encompassing for decades. It is really sad.

She's the greatest 7th character on that show.

No, that designation goes to Gunther. Sadly, I think he died shortly after the reunion aired.

FYI: Friends and Seinfeld exist in the same universe.

One year during sweeps week, NBC tried to do a running plot in all of their Thursday night shows where there was a blackout in NYC. In friends, it’s the episode where chandler is trapped in the ATM vestibule with the model. They wanted some shows to cross over. Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld said they’d only do it if they could kill off Ross on Seinfeld. They said no and Seinfeld wasn’t a part of the running blackout plot.
