You say Ryan, but the other posters are right. There is a reason none of Nolan's 7 no hitters was a perfect game. there were always 3-4 walks thrown in there.

The guy you are thinking of is Koufax. Like Ryan, his control was iffy early on, but he fixed that in a way that Ryan never did. One of his 4 no hitters was perfect. They were easily the 2 most unhittable guys in post WWII baseball. And, if they had Tommy John surgery in the late 1960s, Koufax probably pitches another 5-7 years.

To compare a kid who is about to spend the next 1-2 years in the minors to players like this is totally unfair.

Former big leaguers I’ve spoken to who’ve either faced or were teammates with both give the nod to Koufax. Don Sutton told me that in the Dodger dugout, they were sometimes amazed anyone could even foul a pitch off Sandy.

No.

Koufax had an arthritic elbow. Tommy John can’t help that.

Ah, I don’t think so.

Interesting thing I heard last night was the idea that whoever drafts Skenes may shut him down for the year. I think that could be a good idea.

Although if Pittsburgh drafts him and finds themselves still in the playoff hunt come August/September it’d be hard for them to ignore the possibilities with him in the rotation.
