Daily Mail
Review:
1. Still hates LIV Golf and wants it to go away
2. Feels like a "sacrificial lamb"
3. Knew there were talks going on but surprised at the speed of them
4. Thinks the DP World Tour winning in court in the UK was the final catalyst to get the PIF to the table
5. Says that if he "removes himself" from the sitution and looks at it, this will be good for golf in the long run
6. Acknowledges that the Saudis aren't going away, so if they want to spend money on golf, then its better to do it together.
7. Thinks that a large part of player anger comes from guys worried that they will lose their cards because there will be fewer cards available after the merger.
8. Thinks there still need to be some consequences for guys who left the PGA Tour. Said that Jay made that point in the meeting.

quote:This part was hilarious. PIF was trying to broker a deal as early as April 2021. It was the PGA who finally started coming around to realizing they couldn’t handle LIV players winning championships and sponsors wondering why those players can’t play in their tournaments.

ETA:

Monahan. He turned the battle with LIV into one of legacy, and then morality. Neither argument kept his players from defecting. Then, despite admitting the Tour could never compete dollar for dollar with the PIF, he tried to do exactly that. LIV was always going to win a war of attrition—anybody could see that. The Saudis reached out to Monahan in April 2021, hoping to partner with the Tour. Monahan wouldn’t take the meeting. He could have co-opted them then with minimal disruption to his business. Instead he chose to fight, and now the Tour as we knew it is no more. One fired-up player agent texted this to me on Tuesday afternoon: “The facts are this: Jay grossly misjudged the resources and fortitude of the PIF and did nothing proactive to make the tour less vulnerable to a competitive offering. Upon realizing that the PIF would finance LIV with huge economic incentives, Jay’s solution was to restructure the tour schedule and purses but he failed to ensure that such changes were economically viable. The marketplace answered that question definitively as sponsors were lining up to get out of their deals. The suggestion that the tour’s outlook was bright was wishful thinking at best. With Koepka’s win at the PGA Championship, the PGA Tour’s ultimate plan of ‘waiting them out’ as washed-up diminishing assets became more of a dream than a strategic plan to combat an existential threat. Jay has proven to be grossly unqualified, unprepared and incapable of providing the true leadership that the PGA Tour players deserved through this process. He mixed his ego with his ignorance. As a result of this, the PGA Tour is now essentially an asset of the Saudi Public Investment Fund. Well done Jay!”

One part you missed was the Rory really didn’t like that people have described this as the PGA merging with LIV. He wants people to understand that LIV and the PIF are completely different entities. It’s how he’s rationalizing his hatred for one and accepting money from the other. And he wants everyone else to rationalize it that way as well. Kinda feel bad for him.

Rory is such a repulsive whiny little bitch...

So what are Jay's consequences?
Rory still sticking up for Jay is pretty surprising and disappointing. He seems to be one of the only players that knew this was coming and already had his words lined up. That can't sit well with a lot of guys.

Rory is tone deaf and has been from day 1. He got his money before he even started his career. Nearly all the LIV guys didn't. Who is he to say someone shouldn't take hundreds of millions of dollars after he already got his.
For him to say the LIV guys irrevocably harmed the PGA tour is moronic at best. At worst it is just a flat out lie.
For him to want a pound of flesh for the guys to come back to the PGA isn't going to end well for him and people who think like that.
He did admit some things and that was refreshing. He seems intelligent but is not getting good advice. I think it has been proven that being the Jay's poster boy has proven to be an ill fated venture.

Rory has to be in on this. No way he is ok with this after being the poster child for so long
