Go the first week of November. We did last fall and traffic wasn't too bad and leaves were still gorgeous. Rich Mountain road was amazing.

The first time you do cades cove it'll probably take you a majority of the day cause you'll want to stop several times at lots of cabins. It can usually be done much quicker on future trips cause you've already seen most stuff and are just look at scenery and for wildlife.

If you want to hike a trail like Abraham's, go early to beat the traffic.
