I live exactly where you’re talking about. Stay at the Drury Inn and Suites in either Sikeston or or the Drury Plaza in Cape Girardeau. Both are directly on I-55. If you stay in Sikeston, go to Lamberts as it’s pretty well across the street from the Drury. Cape has more things to do but assuming you’re just stopping to eat/sleep. Cape is a small college town with a casino and several more restaurants than Sikeston. As others said, it’s pretty well covered in cotton, corn and bean fields.
