Apple appears poised to unveil a long-rumored headset that will place its users between the virtual and real world, while also testing the technology trendsetter’s ability to popularize new-fangled devices after others failed to capture the public’s imagination.
After years of speculation, the stage is set for the widely anticipated announcement to be made Monday at Apple’s annual developers conference on a park-like campus in Cupertino, California, that the company’s late co-founder Steve Jobs helped design. Apple is also likely to use the event to show off its latest Mac computer, preview the next operating system for the iPhone and discuss its strategy for artificial intelligence.
But the star of the show is expected to be a pair of goggles — perhaps called “Reality Pro,” according to media leaks — that could become another milestone in Apple’s lore of releasing game-changing technology, even though the company hasn’t always been the first to try its hand at making a particular device.

But with a hefty price tag that could be in the $3,000 range, Apple’s new headset may also be greeted with a lukewarm reception from all but affluent technophiles.
If the new device turns out to be a niche product, it would leave Apple in the same bind as other major tech companies and startups that have tried selling headsets or glasses equipped with technology that either thrusts people into artificial worlds or projects digital images with scenery and things that are actually in front of them — a format known as “augmented reality.”

Which OT baller will be purchasing this product?

This will go over like the Star Wars hotel at Disney.

Pass, the real world is quite enough for me.

Idiots will buy it, though, because it has the Apple logo stamped on it. This is the same company that produced and sold an $800 set of wheels for a desktop tower stand. They know their marks.

I like Apple but thats a little too rich for my blood, I'd rather drop that kind of cash on fishing equipment.

That's funny, Delta gives out little earbuds for free.

I have no desire to frick with VR at all unless it gets to some crazy advanced level, and even then that might spell doom for humanity at large.

I hate VR.
I flew a fighter jet in VR and it made me pissed because it felt so real that I wanted to do the real thing.
Of course that’ll never happen for me though. But I guess I’ll settle for rubber dog shite out of Hong Kong

2 hour battery life
I am sure some Apple fans will buy it, but no compelling feature for sure.
Next I am sure they will start promoting their virtual store you can walk around with to buy more apps that are not made for that environment.

Let me know when they finally get the technology to transmit the image from a watch band instead of clunky VR goggles.

Pretty sure they are going to be disappointed in the results of this headset. Big miss from the folks in Cupertino.

If they could sign a deal to be able to virtually sit court side for NBA games, i would consider. Been waiting for the VR world to move more into sports before i give it a try.

If I stare at my device for more than 30 minutes I cant read street signs for an hour. If I strapped that screen 3 inches from my eyes I would suffer.
