The 3 songs I have listened to were really, really bad.
Almost like they are trying to be bad.

Don't have a lot of time to listen today, but:

1st track - Game Over - seems more or less an A7X song (although first hard part sounds completely like Slayer)

2nd track - Mattel - not liking the snare sound. (Not nearly as bad as St. Anger, but still). Weird singing on the 1st slow part - almost like he's trying to make fun of himself?

After the first two, my gripe isn't with song quality - it's with production quality.

3rd - Nobody - I think this one is just straight out good, especially the outro

4th - We Love You - this one is a little meh-ey

5th - Cosmic - nice track, atmospheric, will take awhile to marinate. I imagine this is the kind of "experimental" track that even the originalists can tolerate

6th - Beautiful Morning - similar commentary to Cosmic

7th - Easier - interesting, sort of like the prior 2 (and with a tiny Yellow Ledbetter vibe toward the end - I think the final chord is actually literally the same starting chord))

8th - G - sounds like they channel Al Dimeola and Polyphia in the intro. I can see people being massively butthurt about this one I like it well enough, but unclear if it could ever be liked as much as their best songs.

9th - (O)rdinary - jazzy Dimeola thing going on again with a bit of electronica. I can dig it well enough, but can only imagine the level of butthurt. Love the solo (a bit psychedelic) but can't tell if keyboard or guitar.

10th - (D)eath - similar vibe to Ordinary. Not a huge fan of the outro.

11th - Life is but a Dream - love the piano.

Overall, I would say I can understand consternation from people who just wanted City of Evil again, but this album still has lots of melody, harmony and structure. It's not like it's complete nonsense like Kid A or anything.

My biggest complaints are overall production quality and some of the weird stuff he does with his singing. Not WHAT he's singing, but HOW he's singing.

On first listen, I'll give it a B, and will expect it to move up to an A- or higher over time.

Not a big fan of their new style……..
But I can’t deny how good of musicians they are. They are very talented

(O)rdinary really blew me away, only because I wasn’t expecting that and came out of left field

Very unique album. Takes you in so many different directions. Syn gates really outdid himself. He plays all the piano parts as well.

I am glad they don't make the same album over and over. This is refreshing for the genre IMO. This album will take time to digest. There is a lot going on sonically.

Mattel, G, and Beautiful Morning are great.

Uh oh. Metalreb won't like this opinion of your own you seem to have developed.

Ngl probably my 2nd favorite album from them. Die hard A7x fan too but this album hits all the right spots for me.

Mattel, Cosmic, and Beautiful Morning are bangers

I'm actually exceedingly bright. So bright that I don't get butthurt when people disagree with other people.

This album keeps getting better with each listen. So much to unpack. The singles are also a lot better within the context of the album.

Agree. I listened to it all weekend and like it a lot. Even the first single which came off odd seems pretty good now.

How do you like the straight up piano track at the end?

I am more of a fan of their long epic album closers but knowing this is Syn playing the piano to wind down this wild ride of an album feels right.

Its actually starting to grow on me as well...the first two songs, while heavy, are super melodic...A7X has always married the two effectively. Those melodies on the first two tracks are some of their best work. But I just don't understand some of the songs near the end of the album...I mean, why? If I want jazz or big band, I will listen to those kind of artists. I listen to Avenged Sevenfold to hear heavy rock music. One thing is for sure: the Metallica comparisons better be dead.

Just finished first listen

It's interesting although one could see them trending somewhere this direction after the Stage (which I loved and would have really liked them to continue more of that stuff)

Mattel was cool, I enjoyed the lyrical content
Nobody solo is epic, although the hi-hat/ride was very intense in the mix to me during verses, almost jarring
Easier love this one
G channeling Dream Theater
O super jazzy love it
The last two tracks didn't do too much for me, even the piano

I haven't listened to the Avenged Sevenfold album, but I couldn't disagree more that Kid A is "nonsense."

Yes, I am going to the show in Houston Oct. 12.

Just saw them at Welcome to Rockville. They were awesome. One of the best-sounding bands of the whole weekend.
