In short:

8 Conference games
1 non-conference game with power 5 opponent
Single division
2024 only, conference will reassess after the season.

Votes were not there any of the 9 game scenarios because ESPN wouldn't fork over any more money.

Dont see how this will work out long term. has to be some kind of alignment or structure instead of top 2 go to the SEC championship. but thats just my thought

Is someone on the inside trying to intentionally destroy the SEC?

Why would they? Because the folks that run the SEC are basic short-sighted idiots? SEC screwed the SEC. If I’m head of ESPN, why would I pay more than contractually obligated to? Contract isn’t even that old. One would think there’d be an extenuating circumstances clause in there or something, but I ain’t no damn lawyer.

in the future, if the host school rushes the field, they must pay the opposing school a fine of $100,000 for the first offense, $250,000 for second and $500,000 for third offense

This little gem here wasn't enough to appease Saban to allow Sankey to go to a 9 game schedule? We all know Bama is the school benefitting from that

So Bama gets another bridge schedule to dodge top teams. LSU will have to play AU UGA UF Tenn I hate those cheating bastards. And please come at me Bama fans. How many times you’ve played UGA regular season since Mizzou and A&M joined?? Then look how many times LSU has had to play them.

Maybe I’m dumb , but why does it have to be either 1&7 or 3&6. Why can’t it be 2 permanent opponents?

No reason not to have an east and west. Let MS/AL state line be the demarcation.

We play UT, OU, TAM, Ark, OM, MSt and Mizzou every year. Then play two from the east rotating every year.

With more teams comes less games to play the teams already around. Give us AL/Van, UGA/SoCar, Fla/UL and Ten/AU.

Yeah it will suck not to play AL/Fla every year but it's the only way to make it fair. I still think we got the shaft with Florida being our permanent east opponent.

Gotta rotate to keep it real.

shite, in five years we will cut Vandy and Mizzou to bring in Clemson and Fla. St. anyway. Ultimately the almighty dollar will decide.

I wouldn’t schedule a ninth game either. But Disney is doing fine.

This is a good idea to see how it goes and then comeback after the season to figure out a better way to construct the conference. But there is no way that a single division is going to last. And honestly thats the part of it I hate the most.

With a 12 team playoff, you can miss the conference championship and still get in.

Too many lazy ones hung out at the pool and bar. Nicky got his way this time; go back next time to approve the no brainer nine game SEC schedule.

As an LSU fan I don't care about 8 vs. 9 game schedule. Getting rid of the divisions is what we needed - this finally levels the playing field in the SEC. The only way to frick it up would be to create too many permanent opponents. One is plenty, none is fine. LSU doesn't have any serious rivalry, and as long as we're playing every SEC team every other year I'm good.
