What we put on paper and press releases and what we actually DO are two different things. For the Taiwan issue, we wink, nod, smirk a little, then say "Sure, Taiwan is part of China" while barely controlling our laughter. Even Biden has said that we'd go to war to defend Taiwan.

We're just liars now. Got it.

The agreements we make not being worth the paper they're printed on is a big reason why the rest of the world can't wait to abandon us and the dollar. That "Pray we don't alter the deal further" BS makes us the bad guys, not the good guys.

Have you thought about moving to Russia? It’s a paradise and you seem exasperated with your home of record.

You're just now figuring this out?

The status quo works for everyone. Taiwan doesn't declare independence; therefore, the PRC can pretend that it's their territory. We maintain the illusion with our so-called "One China Policy" so that we don't rub China's nose in it publicly and force a confrontation. It's the best way of doing business with Taiwan while allowing Xi to save face.

Almost every nation on the planet has the exact same official policy on Taiwan as we do.

Everyone adheres to One China on paper to keep the peace.

No, we have maintained purposeful ambiguity since the Joint Communiqué with the PRC in 1972. The Chinese maintain there is no ambiguity but that relies on the Chinese translation of English which is very much ambiguous and specifically without precision.
