Big 4, including E&Y, used to be meat grinders. Every Spring, they could cherry pick the best grads and also had extensive Summer intern programs before graduation. The ones who went to the financial side worked incredibly long hours in a conference room at the client but everyone knew it was coming and put up with it for a couple of years to get the name on your resume. Some offices used to fire people on their 1 year anniversary if they weren’t on the management/Partner track.

The IT side was much better but still required a lot of travel.

Overall, your stepson will learn a ton but it will cost him. He should always have an eye open for a client to try to jump to or some other move because they’ll let him go in a heartbeat - he should have the same attitude.
