How many plays does an outfielder make per game vs a 1st Baseman?

In a generic situation, the putouts made at 1B are plays almost any ball player is capable of making. It’s why so many major league 1B have been immobile hulking power hitters. Very few players are placed at the position for their defensive capabilities and even fewer play the position without being one of the top offensive contributors. It’s not the number of plays that matter, but the difficulty and negative consequences possible from those plays.

That said, we’re not discussing a generic situation. In this specific circumstance, the plays aren’t so routine with the erratic throws of this infield. It’s why I said he needed to test Beloso’s capacity to handle role. That didn’t turn out so well. It’s why I do not expect him to remain there.

Here’s the thing. Coleman only went 3 innings. That means our bullpen has to eat up 6 innings which is an extremely tall task to ask for our bullpen. Will Dutton be the first out of the pen in a meaningful game, no.

Do I agree with making the move to Little in that situation, no but I understand why he did it. If we want to win the whole thing this year, we need more pitchers, more quality pitchers that you can bring in to close out innings/games.

What jay is doing right now is trying to find the guys he can trust in high leverage situations so in elimination games in the post season he can turn to those guys.

Right now we have skenes and Floyd who he absolutely 100% trusts. After that it’s shaky.

Hurd is close. This past relief outing was huge for him.

After that you have Herring and Guidry.

Cooper and Ack are in next tier.

To make run to Omaha we have to have Skenes/Floyd go 7+ innings. If they don’t we are gonna have to score 10+ runs.

I thought Travinski looked much better than Beloso at 1st a few games back. Why not give him a shot at 1B? He scooped up 2 iffy throws to 1B, 1 by JT & another by White I believe.

The problem here is that LSU doesn’t have a major league infield. Dugas has limited range at 2B. White and Thompson are prone to throwing errors. Playing Morgan at 1st base isn’t just an upgrade at that position. It gives LSU more range on the right side and also eliminates throwing some errors on the left side.
