The National Snakebite Support Facebook group is extremely helpful and has some doctors on there if you’re still needing assistance or wanting some more opinions.

Had a catahoula, and two different Golden retrievers get bit by cottonmouths. All three in the face, one right on the nose.
They all swole way up but were fine after a few days of laying around.

He told us to take all the bullshite the other vet prescribed back to their office and get a refund.

1: What did the emergency vet prescribe?

2: It doesn't work like that. You can't just return that shite for a refund.

They gave us some NSAIDs our normal vet said would do more harm than good for a snake bite.

Normal vet is an older dude who operates a practice in the country. He sees snake bites every day out here. We had to take him into the city last night.

Snakes and dogs have occupied the same territory for thousands of years. Dogs have gotten bit a lot over that time period and have good immunity. I've had many outside country dogs get bit and they all laid up for a couple of days and were fine. But an 11 lb inside dog will certainly make you worry. From what I've read, Benadryl does nothing for a snake bite.

The nsaids prevent swelling so your "normal" doctor told you to not use them, but the leg would split open and melt (phish reference) out the venom. Is that literally what he said? How much did he charge you for that advice?

By the way- there's no test that a vet has to say whether the bite was from a copperhead, rattlesnake, cottonmouth. They can only conclude if it's a hemotoxin which is all of the above. Your "normal" vet telling you they did some tests to prove it was a rattlesnake is lying to you.
