The amount of people here asking if it was a hit and run with a 3-2 count tells you how little the rant knows about baseball. You don’t hit and run with a 3-2 count. A hit and run essentially tells the hitter they must swing, no matter where the ball is pitched. Given the count is 3-2 and a ball draws a walk this wasn’t a hit and run but a straight steal and the batter thought it was a strike and swung.

It’s called a run and hit.

It’s basically a straight steal and the batter is either putting the ball in play or taking ball four. The idea is to stay out of the ground ball double play and it is one of the options a coach has in that situation that makes sense.

The call backfired but that doesn’t make it a wrong call.
