There were a bunch of cars revving engines, burning rubber and driving wrecklessly downtown last night on River Road and in the parking lot next to the Hilton.

They were up to it for well over an hour, only a block from the police department downtown (I guess they aren’t staffed on Sunday night?).

I didn’t hear any shooting, but I’m guessing this was Street gang shite Fast & the Furious style.

I got a ticket in the late 80s for not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign in my neighborhood. I was punished for two weeks.

Now you can do whatever and cops do nothing. Bizarre change to the city.

They should leave one or two of those 5” guns loaded to handle crime in that area.

Someone needs to find powder for those guns on the Kidd and take aim at some areas within a short area of there.

I’ve been downtown late on a Sunday night was pretty shocked by the number of youths out there after 10pm. It was a school night!

Oh don't worry - YOU would still get a ticket for that. You're easy to pull over. Others, not so much.

If the public in BR was aware of how many police were actually patrolling in BR, there would be a larger mass exodus

Broome effectively defunded the cops by running so many officers off with her liberal diatribe.

I initially read this to mean the USS Kidd and the River Center had a beef with each other.

They are approaching 200 officers short. I believe the allocation is mid to high 600s

I have no idea what BRPD’s current numbers are, but I always remind people that what a police department shares as their “manpower” is a half truth. NOPD is a great example of this.

They may have 400 officers, but how many are actually in uniform patrol, street crimes, or traffic? In other words, how many are in a position on the road that will help you because a large portion of the officers within that 400 are in positions such as administration, training, community relations, prisoner transportation, etc. Now break that down further by how many are on duty at any given time and those numbers start shrinking VERY quickly. The story of the NOPD officer quitting mid shift when he saw he was one of 30 officers on duty for the entire city shows this well.

I've been told that there is typically more officers on patrol for LSU police than BRPD officers working 2nd district

When I was with the BRPD a very long time ago, it wasn't out of the ordinary to have a Lt, a Sgt and maybe 2 officers on duty for 3rd District. That was on Coursey before they bought Woman's Hospital and moved it there.

Friday's had double shifts back then, maybe still today I dunno. Reason was that one shift was starting their 4 days and another was ending their 4 days so they worked together.

Murder is definitely down this year but I think it's more of coincidence than any policies by this administration. Maybe it's because so many people got killed the last 3 years
