Is he allowed to, or does the city council and/or mayor need to make the request first?

NEW ORLEANS — New Orleans will once again see Louisiana State Police troopers patrolling the streets beyond the French Quarter.

Mayor LaToya Cantrell announced her support for New Orleans Police Department Superintendent Michelle Woodfork's request to Col. Lamar Davis and the Louisiana State Police to activate Operation Golden Eagle 3.0 as it is called.

The operation will see more state troopers patrolling New Orleans neighborhoods beyond the French Quarter. Mayor Cantrell says this will free up NOPD officers in other areas.

"At the request of NOPD Superintendent Michelle Woodfork, the NOPD and LSP are pleased to announce the return of Operation Golden Eagle,” Cantrell said.
