Best credit card for a first time applicant?

I am a recent college graduate and looking to build up my credit score. My bank offered me a 30% APR with no annual fees but this seems high, even given my average credit score. Any advice on what to look for when applying to credit cards? Cash back, fees, etc. TIA

I'd check out the local credit unions. If you have no credit history, it'll be tough to get a "good" card, but you can get one that offers what you want (cash back, miles, slightly lower rate, ect) and start building your credit.

Amex green card. No choice but to pay it off every month.

You should be paying it off in full every month anyway.

How generous lol. But it shouldn't matter because you shouldn't carry balances. If that will be an issue for you, stick to a debit card.

I had to start with a secured card with basically no benefits when I had no credit. After a while (six months to a year, can’t remember exactly which), I re-applied with the same company and got a better one with good cash back options. Pay them in full every month.

Try the Citi Double Cash (2% cash back) or Discover it Card (5% rotating categories and 1% cash back on everything else) and pay it off in full each month.

Just go to the capital one website and do a soft apply, they'll let you know what you qualify for with their cards. It will most likely be the Platinum which doesn't have rewards but they do have a decent program where you eventually qualify for all of their cards like the Quicksilver and Venture card which have nice benefits.

My kid graduated recently and I was able to get a Capital One Quicksilver in their name. I use it and pay it off monthly which has upped their credit rating.

When I first got out I got a discover card and only kept a 1k limit just to be on the safe side and paid it off in full every month.

With no credit history that's what you are looking at. Manage it responsibly and over time you can get better cards.

Get in touch with Dave Ramsey and ask his advice.

If your parents have good credit and have a card they pay off every month, preferably an older credit line with a high limit, then ask if they will put you on as an authorized user.
Then after a few months of that reporting you can apply for a legit card that offers some benefit more than just building credit.
Whatever you do just pay the card off every month, if you can't do that then don't get a credit card.

Get a card through your bank, carry a small balance, make all of your payments on time, and you will build your credit score. At that point, you can worry more about the best APR offer, rewards points, etc...
