I think y'all are way overestimating kids in general. This kid is 12 years old, so he's likely only one year removed from being in friggin elementary school. Some of yall may have been blazing up at that time but the vast, overwhelming majority of 12 year olds are not. I would think it far more likely that the culprits were passing these around giggling telling their friends "hey, try this!" and not "I wanna get high and fricked up, gimme that sprite"

A kid doesn’t have to be blazing weed at 12 to know what an edible or gummy is and be suspicious of an open sprite bottle passed to them containing them. In fact my kids went thru a drug education program provided by local law enforcement in 5th grade. I think lost kids in Georgia do this. It is very likely some of these kids knew what they were doing and are lying and making themselves sound like victims, that’s what 12 year olds do..

That'd be me in high school after making a small bong out of said sprite bottle with friends.

Nope. And weed opponents hate it.

Which is why you teach your kids that the proper response to "hey, try this!" Is not "okay."

which is fine, that's not really the point of my statment though. My point was disagreeing with the peole in here who are sure that it was intentional and the kids that got sick were purposely drinking it with the intention of getting high.

1. The sprite is worse for that kid than the THC
Absolutely untrue. Especially if it was 10mg gummy or similar. That would frick a 12 yr old up.

I mean, they might be uncomfortably high. They might have some really weird dreams. Might have some serious munchies...but the point is they are in no danger. Hell I'd be more worried about the Benadryl challenge.

If your teen ingests too much THC, you order a pizza and binge the LOTR trilogy. It's not like they'll need their stomach pumped or anything.

I mean, we know they’re in no real danger but I can imagine a 12 year being that high and not even knowing he’d ingested weed freaking the hell out. I’ve been uncomfortably high before as an experienced user, and it’s not a pleasant experience.

a CHILD that has no concept of being high and has never been high, all of a sudden feeling that way would absolutely be a bad situation. They don't know they aren't in real danger because in that moment they're probably freaking the frick out, understandably

yes, your teenager that smokes with his buddies int he basement on weekends would enjuoy the above. a 12 year old in scchool that has zero clue he's ingested anything other than sprite isn't going to take it the same way

Well yeah, that's why you figure out what the hell they took, breath a sigh of relief when you realize it was just THC and then make a chill day with them.

Don't go all Karen and freak out telling them they could die.

You use it as a teaching experience. Don't get mad. Let them know that what they did wasn't smart but that they can always come to you, even when they messed up. Reassure them that it will be okay and then relax and laugh and chill and try to make them comfortable.

You can have the serious talk when they come down. Being TOO HIGH is no fun, but like I said...it's not dangerous either.

I'd rather teach a lesson with edibles than with other pills or shite like that. You never know these days.

you really think they were just sharing a sprite (with gummies floating in it) with no idea what was happening? Come on

I'm saying it's absolutely possible.

When I was fricking 12, if my good buddy said "hey man you want some of this sprite?" literally all it woudl take is me being the tinest bit thirsty to say "sure, thanks" and drink some. You know all the facts from the story so it's easy to dissect it every which way, but in real time in the moment we're talkign about 6th graders here. I'm sure they weren't taking a magnifying glass to the sprite or assumign something nefarious was going down

THC is very close to being totally insoluble in water. You could drop an ounce of weed in a 2 liter bottle of Sprite and no one would get high. This kid did an edible, freaked out, and made up a story to cover his arse.

I'd be more worried about my smart twelve year old drinking a random opened Sprite with unknown shite dissolved and/or floating in it that was just given to him.

No one in the history of planet earth has ever died from THC toxicity.
When I started getting sicker (constant nausea and vomiting) earlier this month my PCP suggested it could be from too much THC. I wasn't getting high at all as my receptors were full from eating Cherry Bombs edibles ("1 and done" is the slogan on the bag) and medical vape pen, plus occasional high THC tincture so I figured may as well stop using since not getting high. Operating too on the assumption that the vomiting was my body trying to purge the over abundance.

Jury is still out as I haven't indulged since Good Friday and I have been in the ER for nausea/vomiting/abdominal pain 6 times since Easter Sunday and been eating nothing but Jello the last 2 days and still not feeling un-sick. My lab tests still show THC metabolites in a spike. We'll just have to wait and see if the theory of body trying to purge is correct or not. Med Pot is intense but also may be innocent.

I was wondering when that whole “hey kids you want some drugs thing” I always heard about as a kid would happen. Just didn’t think it would be from a classmate and so covert. They always said a creepy dude in a van.
