That was from Bauxite. Kaiser Aluminum had a refinery located right there. Bauxite is the orangish colored dirt that contains a high % of alumina which is extracted to produce aluminum.

this ^^^^^^

and that dust gets crusty hard almost like concrete too.

my uncle used to work at kaiser aluminum and he had to run the sprinkler on his truck for at least an hour to soften it up enough to be able to wash his truck. and when he was done it still had a dull finish. most who worked there had a separate work vehicle just to drive to work, because they got so trashed, inside and out, with that damn dust
