The Pistons have received permission from New Orleans to interview Pelicans assistant Jarron Collins for their head coaching job, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Detroit is expected to begin interviews this week. Collins was a three-time championship assistant with Warriors.

Griff needs to shine up his lucky penny. Nothing against Collins, but it seems like Willie could use a more veteran lead assistant.

I hope he gets it. The more changes to staff the better.

Jarron Collins-guided defenses have posted two top-6 finishes in the last three years. Warriors were 5th in 2020-21. Pelicans finished this season 6th, tied for their best ranking in defense in franchise history.

Now Willie skewing rotations and focus to defense at the expense of the offense makes a lot more sense. His #2 was responsible for the defense.

Detroit, Defense Wins Championships.

From the Athletic:

quote:

Per team and league sources, Milwaukee Bucks assistant coach Charles Lee, New Orleans Pelicans assistant coach Jarron Collins and Overtime Elite head coach Kevin Ollie are the current, early front-runners for Detroit’s first-chair vacancy. Lee and Ollie were two names high on Detroit’s list going into the process and have both interviewed with team executives. Collins, too, was someone the organization was very interested in going into the process and, according to league and team sources, had a stellar interview.

Seems like a weird list for Detroit. I would call Nick Nurse if I was the Pistons.
