If it requires surgery, how long is the recovery? I’m trying to get an idea for when I could go back to work. Not physical labor work, I sit mostly but some walking

I had surgery on my left one last February. (I had a slight tear in it for almost 9 years)

I had a meniscectomy. The tear was on the left side and he also cleaned out some skin growth on the right. I was on crutches for a week.

The surgery itself is lacriscopic. 25 mins.tops. Recovery takes around 3-5 months. I turned the corner on mine right at the 3 month mark(Memorial Day weekend). I had to kick baseball season but I was ready to go for football the last half of August. It's been 13 1/2 months since my procedure and I can do everything on it that I did before. It still gets achy on occasion and I have to be careful how I sleep b/c I can still stretch it a little much and it gets achy for 3-4 days but aside from that it is doing great. It will hurt the couple of weeks after surgery. So be ready.

Prepare to hurt in therapy. Especially early on. I was in therapy just over 2 months.

I suggest, and bring this up to your Ortho to see if your insurance covers it, to use a cold compress machine on your leg. It will accelerate the healing process. I loved the one I used.

Good luck.
