Like this place?

Costa Rican Dog Sanctuary

I specifically wanted a purebred basset hound, but my wife and I also wanted a mate for him to hang with during the workday as well. So we went to a shelter for a small-to-medium size dog. I wanted a little heartworm-positive, deaf beagle named Fred, but my wife talked me out of it due to the likely health needs. We settled on a big-arse border collie-mix sweetie. So I feel like we helped do our part.

Some of the shelters we visited were just pitiful pitiful, but Gulfport runs a really clean and professional Humane Society Shelter. And, yes, the vast majority of breeds at most of the shelters were pit mixes, which we'll have nothing to do with. (One shelter even had a mean-arse basset hound-pit mix.)

Shelters really are sad,a lot of dogs that really want attention. We rescued one and brought it home but ultimately had to take it back.

We had an old shelter rescue that was a wonderful dog,I bought a Redbone female ,she and the old dog became best buds but after about a year he died.

We decided she needed a companion so we found a female dog at a shelter, same color as the Redbone.
Sweet dog and got along well with our other dog but she became extremely jealous of the other dog.Twice when wife was petting our dog,the shelter dog attacked our
dog and it was an all out brawl.First time I kinda blew it off but 2’nd time I realized this wasn’t going to work,so we took her back.

I kinda feel Ike the lady at the shelter knew there might be an issue because she suggested we take her as a foster for a couple weeks before finalizing the adoption.
Dtr in law got a rescue puppy, about 6 months old that we puppy sit most work days ,so our dog and the puppy play a good bit.
