Most of my front yard looks like this. It never greened up after the winter. I’ve raked out the dead grass, aerated, and put some seed down. Not sure if that was the right thing to do, but it looks like it’s getting better and some of the seed is germinating

I have spots of my yard that did the same thing and look similar. In places this happens every year. Some in the same spots, sometimes in new spots.
