Going on a bachelor trip in late May and looking for recommendations for reputable fishing guides in the area.

We will be looking to target trout and any tips or recommendations are appreciated. Thanks.

If the weather goes your way you should be able to smoke them straight off the beach wade fishing

Did my bachelor trip last year, Memorial Day weekend, to Grand Isle

We wade fished about 400 yds down to the left from the first public beach as soon as you come on to the island. Just left of that third jetty.

Limited out Saturday and Sunday morning. Was the best two days of fishing of my entire life.

My stringer from Saturday morning

you dont need a boat or a guide that time of year if the weather is good.

For the sake of honesty my group of guys wade fish a lot and two of them are former inshore guides on the western part of the state. So when that bite got hot it was on But we had never tried GI before. Honestly the plan was to go to Elmers Island, but it was so good we never.

Perfect combination of conditions and crew to pull off an absolute smack down. Kickin Chicken downsouth on a 1/4 oz jig head was deadly

But OP, if y’all don’t fish often I’d definitely look into getting a guide for one of the days and trying your hand and wade fishing another. Worst thing that happens is you spend zero dollars to stand in the water

I hope you guys have already booked your accommodations. There are far fewer hotel rooms and camps for rent after Ida.

You’ll do well fishing either the West end of the island or from Elmer’s island during the summer months.

Our neighbor runs the free shuttle service on Elmer’s which is really convenient.

Bring a cast net for shrimp. You can fill an ice chest in no time.

Get a guide for a bachelor party. unless everyone is an expert fisherman and has all their own tackle. A guided trip will be better for a group of people

Did mine and brother's bachelor party trips with Capt Frank Dreher with Laid Back Charter. No complaints and had a great time.

And if the weather is not good, neither a boat or a guide will be of much help.

I know you said trout, but I'm going to throw this out there.

Southern Pride Charters out of Wakeside has a headboat they take out for day trips. You're probably going before snapper opens up, but it might still be something to consider for a bachelor party.

The ads I have seen for day trips were $250/person, everything included but food and drinks. They have ac and bunks. It could be cool for the group to all be together, hanging drinking and fishing instead of being split up on bay boats for trout.

I've heard good things, but I've never used them. Seems like a pretty good deal.

I think I saw they added a Freeman this year.

We’re gonna do an overnighter next summer. This summer the wife’s pregnant so that’s out.

Me and group of guys fished with Frank a few years ago. Nice enough guy but was kinda disappointed in the trip honestly. I don't think we caught more than a 20 trout between 4 people. And that includes the half dozen he already had in the box when he showed up to the dock. We only fished 2 spots the entire morning.
I get it, some day's are tough on the water, but sitting spot locked behind grand terre for 3 hours to catch 3-4 trout a person is kinda boring.
I've heard many folks give great reviews though. This was just my one experience.

Appreciate the recs, I will look into them. We will be bringing a few boats but havent been down there since IDA. My experience in the past has been either wade fishing or trolling the beach.

Most of us have experience but we weren't sure if the fishing has changed any since IDA.

Definitely going to do some wade fishing as that seems like it will be a good time with a big group.
