Ask them what a substitute teacher gets paid in a day. Then ask them to apply that substitute pay rate for the unused vacation days you’ve accumulated. Let them know that if you can’t get any value on the assets you’ve accumulated (your days off), then you intend to use them. Tell them the same rationale you told us that you worked hard to bank those vacay days and that you intend to get at least some value out of them. They are yours to use, so you don’t have to feel guilty about using them if you can’t get that value any other way.

Under this proposal, to the school, the cost of paying those vacation days out or hiring a sub are identical, so they won’t have an issue with it on a cost front. Same thing either way to them. And if we assume that you are a better teacher than a generic sub, then the school gets the benefit of the higher quality education for their students at the same price. Win-win

Literally made this proposal. $100/day. Shitty enough and they said no.
