Per the Parish district calendar, Teachers work from the first week of August through the end of May. They aren’t simple 7-8 hour days. 6:30am -4:30pm is more accurate and then many still have papers/tests to grade at home. Lesson planning eats into your schedule as well. Pretty much every school goads you into being involved in extracurricular activities, so that leads to more time on campus. Teaching is an art and it takes a special personality to be good at it. These people work their asses off and deal with tons of behavioral issues.

It’s a very basic concept that we should be investing as much as possible into educating our children, so our society in general can benefit long term. But somehow 1% is , too much? Sad and pathetic.

Don’t be deceptive, it’s not 1%, it’s ANOTHER 1%.

I have no dog in this fight, but why can't the parish re-balance their budget to provide this 1%?

Never in my life will I vote in favor of a tax. Ever. Government officials should balance their budgets just like the working class has to.

1% is a lot when you are already being taxed into poverty. How about the people in charge of the tax revenue and where it goes be a little more efficient with what they are already getting?

With that being said, no more taxes, I will always vote no.

Gosh, that work schedule must be gruesome without a single day off from August until May!

The bulk of the property tax for schools come from households who don’t even send their kids to public schools. Makes sense that portion of the community wouldn’t give a shite about public school teachers getting a raise. They pay enough and don’t see anything for it.
