Collecting taxes fairly is a Louisiana problem. Homestead exemption shrinks the tax base significantly, especially in rural areas like Livingston Parish. This makes it difficult to fund local things in rural areas within the state.
How we collect taxes is only part of the issue though, how we spend taxes might be the bigger issue. Why are LP schools needing an additional tax revenue? The taxes are percentage based so, their revenue should grow with the population and with inflation. So, what changed that all of a sudden they need more money to be competitive?
