How did we do in the Final Four

Played a really solid game against Louisville, they were just too good. Amazing LSU lost to the eventual national champs in 1979, 1980, 1981, 1986 and 1987.

He didn’t suck, but he was just a good coach - not great. That year is a good example. If Bob Knight had LSU’s talent they would not have been an 11 seed. LSU was a top 8 team in the country on talent, and Dale Brown managed them down to an 11 seed.

Yeah I love assholes like this. In 1987 Dale took a team that had not one player play one game in the NBA and should have beat (if they weren’t absolutely hosed by the refs) Indiana, who had future NBA players Steve Alford, Dean Garrett, Keith Smart and Chris Calloway (and maybe others) playing. Of course assholes like that prefer not to give Dale credit for that.

If they could have kept Nikita Wilson eligible (academics), that was probably Dale's best team to win it all.

I love that team, it’s probably my favorite LSU basketball team of all time. But if you think the 1981 team wasn’t LSU’s best, you are forgetting how good they were. I truly believe if Rudy doesn’t have the injured finger we win it all.

Nikita Wilson was not on the 86 team, as he was suspended for academics at the end of the 85 fall term.

He was also the person who missed the last second shot against Indiana, not Anthony Wilson (as someone else had said). And, yes the shot would have counted (that's my story and I'm sticking to it. Still the only game I have walked out of completely convinced we got jobbed by the refs who refused to kick Knight out of a game with 16,000 Hoosier fans in attendance.)

I don't point either of these out to pile on Nikita. He was a great Tiger and was huge during the 87 run. Just stating the facts.

GEAUX TIGERS!

Absolutely. If they just call one of the fifty blatant moving screens they were setting against Wood and Ollie to get Alford open, we win. It was a damn disgrace.

Your post is spot on. Knight had WAY more talent than Dale that year, and had to bang on the phone and act like a bitch to get EVERY call after that. Still the most disappointing loss in my time LOVING the Tigers.

Nikita Wilson however had a cup of coffee in the NBA . I believe he played briefly for the Trailblazers.

We were there, too. For "non Blue Bloods",LSU had a respectable crowd that afternoon. But Kentucky had 70% of the crowd. Their arrogance is legendary.

Remember the FF was in Dallas. There was a woman ranting and raving after the game with a t-shirt that said, "FORTY MIUNTES TO DALLAS." I asked her if she lived in Ft Worth. Lets just say she wasn't amused.

You are right, I forgot Nikita actually did play a bit with Portland. He was drafted late in the second round and played 15 games, averaging 1.3 points before getting cut and heading overseas to play.

I don't think LSU fans will see any runs like this in the foreseeable future!

I was there. I was 10. Coach Brown invited my family and I onto the floor of the Omni while the players cut down the nets.

LSU was up 8 at the half! then lost by 11. 19 point turnaround. 88-77 was final score if i recall.

That was a miserable day. We had no answer for never nervous Pervis. He dominated the paint in the 2nd half. And we had foul trouble

Crazy days at LSU, but I wouldn't have missed it for the world! That season was the best!

I remember spending two days watching basketball my freshman year, since the first 2 rounds were in BR. Awesome memories….my buddies went to Atlanta for the next 2, but I unfortunately skipped those!

Correct on all counts. Sadly, it ended up being a carbon copy of the 1981 Final Four game with Indiana...take a lead into halftime and get clobbered in the second half.

The best part of the 1986 run was the "experts" saying that LSU only made the Sweet 16 because they got to play at the PMAC. Just wait until they have to play Ga Tech in Atlanta.

The collapse against Indiana the next year was made worse by the fact that the 1987 Final Four was in the Superdome. Nikita Wilson was killing Indiana inside but the Tigers stopped going to him late, save for the final shot attempt. Even Bobby Knight mentioned that fact.

Coach Brown was an awesome guy. I grew up in Atlanta. My parents, both LSU graduates started going to LSU basketball games in Athens to see our Tigers every year in 76. By 1978 Coach recognized my dad. Coach Brown came into the stands in Stegman and introduced himself to my dad. Said don’t buy tickets through UGA. Come to me. Years later we’re meeting the team at the hotel in Athens. I’m riding the team bus and going into the locker room. Great memories!!!
