A quick google says 7.1% of US citizens are LGBTQ.

So make 7.1% of characters in movies LGBTQ.

IMDB lists 18 "top cast". One of them is gay. Want to do the math on that?

I'm of Italian descent. Imagine Star Wars just randomly had a stereotypical Italian as a main character that didn't really add to the story. At first, you'd think "hmm, that's odd" and continue on with your life because it's not a big deal.

Subsequently, seemingly every movie has a stereotypical Italian in it. After awhile, even if you like Italians, you'd probably think "does every fricking movie have to have an Italian in it?" It's not that you now hate Italians, you're just tired of that being the focus when it does absolutely nothing but dilute a story.

Sure, but that's also a bit disingenuous. Nobody would care that an Italian guy is in a movie. They literally wouldn't ever think twice. Many people will care always care that a gay person is in a movie. Even if they are not the focus, even if they're not stereotypical. Even if their character was in the movie for 2 seconds. Many just don't want to see gay people on a tv screen in any capacity.

I'm not saying that's you, necessarily. But what I just stated is absolutely the case for a lot of people.

They wouldn't think twice because the studio wouldn't make a huge spectacle and market the product based off the Italian

I wouldn't say many unless you're taking a large sample size. Troglodytes for sure don't want to see them in any capacity.

I agree that it's the case for some people, but for people like me, it's the heavy handedness/shamelessness that ends with story dilution. Messaging has always existed in movies but every movie having the same exact agenda shows how forced it is. The result has been awful stories and character destruction of the biggest IPs on the planet

Having gay people simply exist in a movie doesn't mean the movie is automatically woke, imo.

I think it’s weird when they have a person that’s secretly gay in the movie until they kiss some dude. Like when the director lets you know the character is gay with a lisp or pink shirt you say oh that’s just a normal gay person but when they put a regular male actor in there and make them kiss a dude it feels like they’re punishing that actor for not being woke enough

and of course they had to make one of the orphans gay.

Oh the horror. And your sons had to be there to see this perfectly normal thing on a movie screen! Prayers for you.

I just think it's clear that there is an agenda that hollywood is pushing and it's turning a lot of people off.

And there it is. You “think” there is an agenda, so anytime you see something gay in a movie, it confirms this already preconceived notion. And movie audiences don’t care about gay people in movies.

i've got no problem with gay people at all. liked Ep3 of LoU, don't hate brokeback, and thought the ending of Black Sails was touching.

statistically homosexuality is under no circumstances perfectly normal. it's a statistical anomaly.

Right. So what if the movie didn't make a huge spectacle over the gay character, nor was it marketed off of that single character.

Would you personally still say that the movie is woke?

Not if the gay character is a legitimate part of the story and they didn’t change a straight character to gay or throw someone in there to meet a quota

Example of perfectly fine: Last of Us E3. Characters that were already gay were portrayed closely with important story ties and emotional weight

Example of awful/woke: The Last Jedi. Holdo is clearly an LGBT character that was shoehorned into the story for agenda reasons. She’s a character that never showed up in anything else, yet is supposedly Leia’s best friend and magically the second in command even though Ackbar and everyone else is still there. I’m cool with new characters but that makes no sense story wise
