Woodward Basketball Coaching Hires

Has Scott ever hired or even extended a men’s basketball coach that has actually won an NCAA Tournament game after being hired or extended?
I think it’s a smaller sample size with Romar (6 years), Buzz (4 years), and McMahon (1 year).
Gave Romar a 10 year extension in 2010 and he never won a tournament game after that.
Hired Buzz Williams in 2019 and he’s never won a tournament game, hell he’s only played in 1 at A&M (tonight).
McMahon….just no.
Am I missing something? He’s made good football hires, and every other hire here has been good, but he’s got a terrible track record in MBB.
ETA. This thread went about like I expected and really shines the light on people who don’t care about basketball and get irrationally furious when anyone criticizes Woodward. I didn’t say he should be fired or anything like that. Just pointed out a historical problem and asked why it exists and what can fix it. The responses called me retarded and a fricking moron. This is what you get from the Woodward crowd when you try to have an objective discussion.

I was actually looking up Washington basketball postseason results during Woodward's tenure there out of curiosity after Buzz got blown out tonight.
11 years is more than a small sample size. It's concerning.

1. You don't know if McMahon is a good hire yet
2. Who do you expect he was going to be able to hire last season? No one was banging down the door to come here....

Wade made it look so easy, Fat Woody said, I got this, he thought anyone could do it.

I don't really see Buzz as a blemish on his hiring resume. Buzz was a really good hire at the time. I get not working out is the issue, but not sure A&M could've had a better hire on paper at the time.
239-138 record with 8 NCAAT appearances including 3 sweet 16s and 2 Elite 8s. I think he's a solid coach, just taking a little longer at A&M to see the results but now 52-23 the last two seasons.

How many hires he’s made have won championships under his watch?

Hiring coaches at non traditional basketball schools is not all that easy. More specific to lsu, almost impossible given how Will Wade left the program.

Statistical quirks????
Did you think we would run Wade off, gut the program, hire a new coach, and win an NCAA playoff game? I didn’t.
Btw, Will Wade didn’t win a playoff game last year. He won one the prior year, and none the year before that (no tourney).
Wade or his tesm only won 3 NCAA games in his five seasons at LSU. It’s not as if LSU was a powerhouse.
And I wish Woody would have kept Wade, suspended him for five games and stayed the course.

Careful all the diehard football and baseball fans will say that Woodward is the basketball hiring GOAT.

You are an emotional retard, just own it.

Getting A&M to a NCAA tournament is a pretty big accomplishment for that program
They have 0 Elite 8's in their program history and this was only their 15th appearance ever. So far I'd say Buzz is doing positive things there, especially their turnaround in conference play from OOC this season.
Billy Kennedy's tenure there was pretty weird. His last season was bad but not terrible (14-18, 6-12 still in SEC play) and he made 2 Sweet 16's (2 of their 6 ever) in 2 of his last 4 seasons but Woodward fired him

You people are a bit too obsessed with something that is (currently) out of your control. You’re beating a dead horse.

So by your logic........you rather have Joe Alleva?

To be fair Texas A&M has always been terrible at basketball.

If we a have an elite program that will attract top coaches (Kelly and Johnson) or an elite coach that is from Louisiana (Mulkey), then Woodward is fine.
If he actually needs strategy for a job that isn’t top tier, he’s not your guy.
He’s also the same guy that extended Coach O for no reason and gave Jimbo an absurd contract
