El Paso is under-rated.

Yeah, it's like 90% mexicans and there's a TON of poverty all around, but it's actually kind of cool and the homicide rate is really low as far as cities go. Good customer service at restaurants and stores.

McAllen and Brownsville are also surprisingly not that bad. McAllen has 142k people and has almost no murders. I think they went the entire year of 2018 without a single homicide.

I love it. First time I went alone and had a good time, definitely noticed how clean it was and frankly beautiful with the hills, architecture, and even the bridges and roads are lit up nicely.

Last 2 times I've had a peer meet me there from Houston who's bilingual and have had a much better time. ordering food has been much easier and better selections too. It is shocking how you literally look 100 yards south and it's a completely different world.
