Gotcha. I remember hearing that the temperature was what really fricked them. Something about the drilling mud breaking down at those temps and caking up the hole IIRC.. does that sound right?

Davy Jones is a much different reservoir than Shenandoah.
They are reasonably comparable in total depth below sea level, but DJ was in only 10' of water and Shen is in ~6000' of water, meaning you're dealing with 6000' less of rock overburden at Shen.
DJ also had little to no salt above the formation, where as Shen has ~20,000' of salt above it. Salt is lighter than rock, which reduces the overburden pressure, and acts as a thermal wick, reducing the downhole temperature.

The large salt body is one of the biggest contributors to why Shen has such a unique oil quality for this depth, as another poster had mentioned.

And although Shen requires a 20k psi tree like DJ, it is just barely above the 15k surface rating and will actually produce the majority of its life under 15k. The 20k tech is just needed for the completion and production tree.

The good news about more exploration research is O&G loves to spend on tech for all the applications and data they'll generate.

Hell I might even get a set of nuts for my truck. O&G has been a business vertical that has been very good to me when they're doing well.

This right here is why I prefer to post industry articles, even though they could be or turn political, on this board.

Not typically going to get this type of technical discussions between posters on the PoliBoard. Appreciate the info in y’all’s back and forth on the dynamics.

Chevron still requiring COVID vaccines

So does Shell. I think all of the majors require it. That along with a negative test in the past 24hrs. This was last November. I doubt the policy changed since. I so much wanted to say go frick yourself but they will easily just find someone who has the shite. I played along because I really didn't feel like job hunting.

Shell dropped the mandate as did Murphy oil. Chevron is now 1 of only a handful of an elite group who refuse to pull their heads out of their asses!!

It’s been my experience that those who are actually responsible for the planning and execution of real operations pay very little, if any, attention to that side bullshite that doesn’t produce a single profitable commodity.

This wasn't directly oil field but same type of people

I just had a meeting at a job site that was one of the more impressive new locations i've seen but it is still under construction

One of the owning partners (~70 years old ex armed forces no doubt) met with me to go over a relatively small part of the operations. Going to needed daily but more a necessary evil than a profit generator. Something that i usually meet with an Ops manager to go over, especially at a company with this amount of money.

We met in a trailer that looked like he has been living in it. He is smoking a cig, with a loaded pistol in his lap. Not a gun guy, but didn't look cheap. He proceeds to accurately tell me everything I need to do. Almost word for word what i was about to tell him. Hands me a copy of the US constitution before proudly showing me the facility and sending me on with my day
