Lotta negativity in this thread so far.

I hope they work out because I want to provide year round food for my deer. Yeesh

My uncle planted some around his house years ago for deer. I forgot how many years it took for them to produce but it was soon. Maybe like 5 years. I was taught at LSU they are a very good tree to add to your native trees for mast production. Good luck with yours. I wish I had started at our place years ago, but I planted a couple persimmon trees this year and plan to add a few different types of trees every year.

They might help, but acorns are not year round food. Clover is your answer for year round food. If possible, so some controlled burns. Also, lightly disc roadsides.
We have a few sawtooths on us and right next to us. They just haven’t impressed me. Maybe you’ll get better results.

Don't listen to the negatives, they grow easy, produce a large acorn at about 6 years, and you will have all the deer in the neighborhood in your yard in Aug/Sept. I grew all of mine from acorns of two large trees already in my yard, a little triple 13 gives them a boost. I enjoy watching deer, they're perfect for me.
