I don't like to agree with fatkid on anything because he is legit special, but I do agree with him partly. Hence my last post. But let me make an argument against this in a normal, non-anti gay way...

quote:

Lol. The entire episode was about the evolution of a character that didn’t give a shite about the world or living in it for that matter and for that to be a complete 180 simply because he found a connection with another human that mattered to him. That’s all people really want, connection to others and I would say especially so in an apocalyptic world. Sometimes that connection is romantic, other times it’s platonic. I don’t come on TD looking to frick. I come on TD looking to connect and discuss topics with other human beings.

You're just describing what a love story is. Gay or straight, apocalyptic or not, it was just a love story. I don't think anybody is arguing that, Would I have enjoyed it more if it was a straight couple? Yea. So I realize I can't say it was a bad love story just because I would enjoyed it more had it not been a gay couple. The fact that they never would have done this episode had it been a straight couple is another debate in itself, but you know they wouldn't have.

quote:

The entire journey of the episode was two-fold from a character standpoint. The effects of Bill’s characterization through the letter impacts Joel to try and find the same thing Bill found. So yeah, two characters were very much dynamic and changed in this episode. Your failure to see that just goes to show how much of a pleb and hack you really are.

But the letter didn't tell us anything new. We already knew he cared for Tess and he was already on his way for caring for Ellie. It's not like the letter had some deep meaning for him, he through it away immediately

Just to go along with that, all of what was done for Bill and Frank could have been accomplished in probably half the time. Spending 60 minutes on two characters that don't matter going forward vs 10 on the two that matter the most is just off. I mean you can't deny that they could have cut out some lame love story scenes and added more time to other areas, heck even time with the 4 of them together or dive in to the 70/80/90s code they were doing. Something, I don't know, I'm not a writer. But I do know I was sitting there thinking "man why am I getting an episode of the notebook?" Especially given how early it was in the season, to spend that much time on it, I didn't care for it.

Based off the first two and a half episodes, I would very much disagree with this. I think you're letting your knowledge of the game influence this thinking. Just based off their interactions in the show, he would have dropped her off on Bill and Frank and bolted if he had the chance. The letter, and the lack of Bill and Frank def changes his mind and only AFTER the letter does he start to allow himself to start connecting to Ellie.

LOL you have no way of knowing this. I'm not going to sit here and argue hypotheticals with someone who just blatantly said they would have enjoyed the story more had it been a straight relationship. You're basically saying the same thing as fatkid just written better. I'm all for calling out Hollywood when they try to shoehorn agenda in. This isn't one of those instances.

This board would not have given one single frick had it been a story of two hot lesbians. Not. One. frick.
