Kaladin and Andolin in the 4v2 duel in Words of Radiance is so well written. It’s awesome. And then the way the chapter ends is perfect. Sanderson is a master at building up tension, snowballing it into an amazing payoff and then almost immediately setting up the next conflict.

I’d recommend anyone just starting to almost read these things in publication order. Mistborn blew me away when I read it. If I’d have started with Stormlight I think I would’ve been disappointed just because of how much Sanderson has grown and evolved as a writer over the years.

I just happened on this thread, and it reminded me that this Board started me on my Sanderquest almost a year ago.

I'm all caught up on the Cosmere except for Tress. Just picked it up.

100%

I just finished Oathbringer yesterday, and there are some damn fine moments in that one. There are no epic ones like the WOR duel, but there are some wonderful character development ones that are super memorable. I'm taking a break and rereading Dracula right now, but I plan to get back to this series immediately afterwards with Dawnshard. Sanderson is masterful at telling a story. Where he lacks in dialogue sometimes he more than makes up for in character development and engaging story telling.

Yeah that's my recommendation as well including the novellas/short stories. This allows you to pick up on all the Cosmere connections/easter eggs better.

The only thing I would suggest is to hold off on Mistborn Secrety History until after Rhythm of War. If you do this, will blow your mind.

Once you finished the books and/or want to know more then it's time explore the Coppermind for the things you missed. Or things Sanderson has said in person about the Cosmere. Just be careful to avoid spoilers. If you've only read up to a certain book, you can set the "time machine" to a certain book. Then the site only shows you stuff that was there up to that point in time. This only works if you've read in publication order.
