It’s astonishing to me that in the days and weeks after the murders, he didn’t even make an attempt (for show) to pursue the “real” killer. The testimony that he never mentioned finding the killers afterwards or did anything in that regard was very telling. Maybe pure hubris?
The evidence was strong, but you never know with juries, maybe if he’d hired a PI and/or made some other efforts to investigate it may have been enough to plant a seed of reasonable doubt.
That was a crazy trial to go through.
