Where did these asshats get their $?
Generational prosecutors who turned their power into a successful law firm. The Murdaugh firm made hundreds of millions of dollars suing railroads in personal injury cases. They were the reason the South Carolina General Assembly changed our venue statute for civil suits. It used to be an injured party could sue in any county where the corporation did business. So if you had a railroad injury case 100 miles from Hampton you could still sue them there and get a huge settlement, because the Murdaughs knew all the potential jurors if it went to trial.

I think I got interested in this convoluted case because I felt so very, very sorry for the wife and mother.
As I see it, she thought, for quite a while, that her life was going well. Her husband may have been an a-hole to live with, but they liked their life together.
Then, one day she was at a charity lunch and wrote a check. Just as she had countless times before. And a day or two later, a friend had the horrid task of calling her and telling her that the check bounced.
I don't know how much the check was for, but if the check couldn't be covered in a normal working checking account, AND if whoever was their bank officer didn't step in and work out the problem, there was something really wrong.
I expect he talked his way out of it. As I understood, it happened a second time. And 'fool me once, shame on you, foot me twice, shame on me." And she started looking and saw her world crumbling.
That misery, and then to be shot dead.
