I've been seeing this on twitter a lot because I follow a lot of baseball accounts.
It's super fricking dumb. The excuse that he didn't actually coach his player is flimsy, but it shouldn't be an issue in the first place.
This is them sticking to letter of the rule, ignoring the spirit of the rule. And looking like idiots for it.
ETA: They're sticking to the letter of the rule because it absolves them of having to do any sort of actual thinking.
