Why do y’all marry people like this?
Don’t over simply the lengths of effort, skill, and complexity some women are able to put into conning men into believing that they are a suitable partner.
I screened mine for years before we decided to get married. The minute the contract was signed, the leverage I had to be able to quickly walk away evaporated and the motivation for her to continue to provide actual value disappeared. It was a slow progression, but I quickly began to see her true character reveal its ugly self.
I have enough self awareness to admit I missed or looked past a lot of red flags that later surfaced. That is my cross to bear.
The best conclusion I can come to as to why we ultimately got married is that she was the person I was with when I decided I was ready to settle down. Looking back on it now, I wish I would have accepted that she likely was not going to be a good partner and walked from her. But I was ready to be a father and rationalized that she would grow out of all of the small things I knew were toxic.
I passed on a lot of really good women during my younger years when I wasn’t ready to settle down. I won’t make that mistake again.
